Marla's Sweet Bites

Completed in June, Marla opened her cupcake and confectionery shop at  478 Central Ave. in Highland Park, IL.

Base Level designed and built  the commercial space based on Marla's design statement: "I want the color palette to be brown and pink, and the design to be sophisticated, yet whimsical."

As illustrated here, we met the challenge, with pink tile inserts, bordered by rich mahogany cabinetry. Strong vertical elements softened at the tops with curves support glass shelving for product display.

Sandwiched between are vertical glass panels creating the illusion of support for the soffit, and adding a play of light with subtle reflections. The addition of round copper shelving in the back curved recessed wall adds depth, correlating with the front curved panel below the main display... backlit, of course!

The entire cupcakery is artfully finished in custom sweeps of beautiful shades of color, hand-painted by a local artist.
